While performing multiple autopsies, a professor of pathology at the Johannes Kepler University Linz looked into the victims’ body to receive clarification about how COVID-19 operates.

Even with a 48 hour precaution he and his colleagues still found traces of the virus still in the patients’ body.

He reported that when he looked into the victims’ body, he discovered that the main damage done was to the small tiny air sacs called alveoli.

How Blood Clots Form

As the lungs branch out into more and more places (to inhale the maximum amount of air), these branches end at the alveoli.

There they are diffused through the capillaries and travel in the bloodstream. So when these alveoli are damaged, less and less oxygen is being successfully transferred to the body, therefore leading to respiratory failure if the conditions are severe enough. The professor also reports that they saw multiple blood clots located in the pulmonary arteries.

He suggests that this is also a major part of what causes the severe illness. How does it happen?

We are not completely sure, but the professor again suggests that COVID-19 changes the clotting system of blood, which is leading to the said blockages of the vessels.

And this entire thing snowballs into bigger and bigger clotting problems until the heart is inadequate to pump blood through the body.

However, it is still not safe to say whether this is an immune response or COVID-19 is a direct cause for this condition, though the doctor says he is leaning more toward the immune response side.
